SONGS Neuroscience Research Day Art-Science Collaboration
SONGS is excited to start planning for a virtual Neuroscience Research Day (NRD) in February 2021. We will again feature a Neuroscience Art Exhibit (Cajal Creative Competition), but this year we are hoping to foster collaboration with the Visual Arts Department by pairing our trainees with art students to create science-inspired artwork. Art students will be partnered with neuroscience graduate students, postdoctoral fellows or faculty to create an art piece inspired by the neuroscientist’s project.
If you choose to collaborate with an art student, SONGS will match you with an artist in early December based on your responses to our recruitment questionnaire. After being matched, your partner will shadow you to learn about your research project, then create an art piece based on your work to be displayed at NRD. Please note that the final art piece will be the property of the artist.
You will have the opportunity to virtually shadow your partner to learn more about their style and techniques. You will also be challenged to experiment with new visualization techniques for scientific communication based on what you learn from virtually shadowing your partner!
Time commitments for the art projects and virtual shadowing will be flexible, and will be agreed upon by each pair. This is a great opportunity to present your work at NRD in a unique way, challenge yourself with new concepts, and potentially win a cash prize award!
Sign up through this form by November 16th if you’d like to participate in the art-science collaboration!
