“Growing Through Connections”

Artist: Zhaleh Mohammad Alipour, Department of Neuroscience, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University

This is a piece of art that tries to show how brain connections can lead to the development and cognitive abilities of humans. By using the most famous section of the fresco painting "Creation of Adam" by Michelangelo, I have tried to show these connections in an artistic way. However, synaptic connections in the dark background show it in a more realistic way. To symbolize growth, the base of the spinal cord has been transformed into a tree trunk towards the bottom of the painting.
