Mental Health in Academia Focus Group
Friday Feb 25th 12:00-12:45pm
Gather on Spatial Chat during the lunch break on Day 2 of NRD for an opportunity to engage in discussions with peers and colleagues about selected topics relating to mental health. The event is run by the SONGS I Wish I Knew Committee, and a representative of the committee will be leading discussions, at different “stations”, on the following topics:
Time management and Work-Life Balance
Dealing with anxiety
Imposter Syndrome
The virtual room in Spatial Chat will also have two, less structured stations, including:
Free-flow station, where there’s no pre-selected topic chosen for discussion.
Decompressing station, where you can take a moment to disengage from conversation.
As a mobile avatar in Spatial Chat, you’ll have the opportunity to move around the room freely and engage in, or listen to, conversations at each station, to the extent that you like. You are welcome to leave the room at any point.
We understand that mental health is difficult to talk about; it will be possible to attend the event anonymously, by choosing a different display name, keeping your camera off, and using the chat function.
Please feel free to reach out to the IWIK Committee chair, Sarah Kearsley (skearsle@uwo.ca) with any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you again for expressing interest in this event, and we hope to see you there!
