Abstract
In many ways, like art, fields which explore human behaviour and neurology share a similar appreciation for the human circumstance. Both artists and neuroscience researchers involve themselves with the concept of response. Manifested in two different ways, however, fundamentally similar. This is to honour a life indebted to the human condition and the beauty that lies within it. It is to celebrate the shared motivation to find connection between the abstract elements which make up life and pursue meaning. The goal here is to ignite the excitement which had initially convinced those here at NRD that this is a worthy field to spend a careers worth of attention on. This is to reignite the awe and wonder created when encountering the first brain scans that would mark the beginning of a life long passion and career. I want these images to feel bigger than life itself because the implications of neurological research are far reaching. As an artist, to honour the brain, Iād like to celebrate the beauty of the neuron. In this way we may also honour all that the a single Neuron may signify; the potential for incredible connection, connection which become networks, and are responsible for life, and the appreciation of art itself. To celebrate the one, is to celebrate us all. I believe a painting is the most intimate way to represent the relationship we have have with our minds and will enhance our appreciation for what a brain at work can accomplish. I deliberately have chosen to leave this united to preserve sense of wonder.
